Flash Fiction Friday Prompt – ‘The City at the Edge of the Flood'
Like to write? Use this prompt to create something new
If you’re a writer—particularly a speculative fiction writer—and find yourself searching for something to write about, there’s good news for you. Today, I’m offering you a new writing prompt. Do with it what you will.
Prompt: Write a micro-story (≤500 words) using the prompt. Drop your story link below!
Where Should You Publish Your Story?
The cool thing about prompts is that they are starting points. Not end points.
In other words, they’re sort of like diving boards. Their purpose is to launch you into something greater. Something deeper. Something more gratifying. After you leave the bouncing, flouncing appendage of the pool, the diving board has served its purpose. It’s no longer needed.
That’s the way it is with a prompt.
Your story doesn’t need to be about a flood. It doesn’t need to be about a city. The prompt is simply the vehicle that gets you from inspiration to perspiration.
Start there. Don’t end there. Take it wherever your imagination goes.
When you’re done writing, publish your story. On Substack. On your blog. On Hive. Heck, if you want to, put it on Wattpad and throw a beer party. No one’s going to blame you for publishing it your way.
Then …
Drop by here and put your link in the comments so the rest of us can gawk at your beautiful dive.
Above all, have fun!
